Albert passed away peacefully in hospital on Saturday 21st April 2012, just a couple of weeks after I met him. He was a real gentleman and I feel priviledged to have met him. Our sincere condolances to his widow Dorothy, daughter Janet and the family.
The best part of my job is when I telephone one of our players on Friday to tell them the good news that they have won £1,000.
Back in January 2012, I called Albert Lane who has been a TLC member since we started almost 15 years ago. His wife Dorothy answered the call and as soon as she knew it was TLC, put her husband on.
I had to tell Albert that he had not won our £1,000 weekly top prize – instead he had won our Rollover Jackpot of £1,750.
All our members are special and our winners’ decide to spend their winnings in different ways, but Albert and Dorothy’s story really touched us here at the TLC Lottery Office.
Albert (90) and Dorothy (88) met in an air raid shelter, instantly falling in love and in August of this year they will have been married for 70 years.
Because of Albert’s health, they decided it was time to leave the home they have shared throughout those 70 years, and move into sheltered accommodation.
However, Albert had made all the furniture in their home and as it was built in and not suitable for their new flat, they would have to buy new.
Albert told me that his TLC winnings meant that they could buy all the new furniture they needed for the new flat.
I was privileged to meet Albert and Dorothy in their new home and they were so delighted with the flat and their new furniture.
